The paralel between childhood winter expectations and market perceptions is spot on. We've essentially trained a whole generation to see zero-bound rates as the baseline when historcally that's never been sustainable. The penny's demise is such a visbile reminder of how far purchasing power has eroded. What strikes me most is how the system can't function without these bubbles anymore, like you said about the heroin analogy.
